I played lfs on the mouse for about 4 years, then I finally bought a G25 about 4-5 months ago. When I first got the wheel I played like for a week or two almost every day.
Although I still like drifting with the mouse better (not too big of a drifter, I get bored with that more quickly).
The only thing I can really suggest is try to pay attention to your drivetrain where the engine weight is when your pushing your car what your tires are doing. do a few easy laps on cold tires before you really push it and concentrate on tire roll. Then try to make your tires last longer then you normally would b4 while keeping good times. When on my mouse I would go threw tires more quickly.
I'm big on CS on other games, but I try to mix it up so I'm never really bored with one thing. I'd like to play LFS more but I'm not as good as what I'd like to be with what times I get.. Although I can hang in there with okay times and not crash with the rest of the pack.
Vw tried to make a "flat turbo" which almost has no turbo lag (what they were going for).
Most production cars fitted with turbo's didn't come with turbo pressure gauges. For testing purposes I'm sure they routed in some gauges just to accurately get the data, but wont be shown in the real game because the real production car doesn't have them.
I've been a long time lover of vw's! This is perfect edition, now I can get other dubbers to finally start playing with the sirocco as bait (since we won't see them on US soils).
I'm almost surprised they didn't want to use the W12 instead of the sirocco, knowing it wasn't ever going to be a production type of vehicle.
I dont really pay attentions to WR's or anything.. But I've noticed in race I hold a good time but hot lapping I can't get crazy good times like other people. depending on the length of the track I'm like 1-3 seconds off (even more sometimes).
I'm not big with the BF1 or anything.. I like working with body roll and less griping tires. feels more like track racing to me.
If I do hotlap I wear down tires like in 3-5 laps.
My friend let me borrow his DFP awhile ago and he wasn't much of a racing sim fan, he actually would always poke fun that I like these kinds of games.
After four years of mouse use on LFS, I bought a G25.. I brought it in for him to try it today after work with my notebook and my G25. I was going to let him borrow it for GT5 for his PS3..
Anyways He's been using his DFP instead with GT5, but I gotta say he was soo amazed with this game and the Force feedback and the visual feedback of the wheel movement. He had the biggest grin on his face the whole time, talked up everything that he talked down about the game in the past
Not really thread worthy, but I'm sure you guys like hearing these stories. I'm going to try to get his PC fixed up and get him to buy LFS, he wants to buy a G25 soon to
Any other stories that turned someone onto this game?
I've used a mouse a long time before I bought a wheel... I still like to play LFS once and awhile on my laptop when a wheel isn't accessible...
To really make a game where the only control able to be used is a wheel would be the dumbest move to make.. I had acess to a xbox controller I could of used for a controller instead of a mouse.. but it sucked ass even with axis throttle controls (sliders)
-Get better
I have a mouse but perfer my wheel most the time, even though I'm slower. This game isn't all about WR, unless you are going for a qualifying time.
I used a mouse for 4 years even before I bought a wheel.. It does have it's distinct advantages in a way (and disadvantages).
I used the mouse scroller for up and down shifting (down for upshift and up for down (some reason pressing up on a downshift feels more natural, like in a car with manual auto shifting)). I also used a button for a clutch and no clutch help.
In all theory I had 3 legs for every control right then and there and shifted on the wheell as well! You can also use the steer center reduce that makes it less sensitive steering in the center.
It was pretty easy to feel the differential how it brakes loose from either accel or de-accel and the steering gets to be seemles where you dont think about overcorrecting or counter steering.
The only thing that got me to buy a wheel is wrist cramping with long races and I couldn't truly feel the brakes and push it that hard into turns.. Plus if you get good with the mouse you have less of a tendency to steer into turns while braking (i've found).
thats a big reason I got my G25.. Soo I wont tear up my rear car working on driving techniques (plus it's not as easy to hit up the track and afford a race car)
I'm probably still a bit more slower then I was on my mouse for 4 years
"- A large capacity normally aspirated (say 4l V8?) front engine RWD car to rival the FZ50"
I still think a AC v8 closed wheel roadster would be perfect for this!
- The GTR race version of the above to compete with the FZ50 GTR - A moderate power ~1.6/1.8l NA mid-engine RWD car (like an entry level Elise) to compete against the LX4
"- RB4 WRC - a lighter weight ~300-350Hp version of the RB4 for the Rally-X circuits"
A road tires that could compete against the XFR and UFR would would perfect as well
But idk about everything crammed into one.. Maybe on the beta versions but already we dont have enough track content.. You'd probably see a test arena and get bored of it too quickly.
